My Unexpected Journey into the World of Hairstyling

Growing up, the question of "What do you want to be when you grow up?" always puzzled me. While many kids dreamed of becoming doctors, marine biologists, or veterinarians, I couldn't pinpoint my passion. Although I had an artistic flair, traditional mediums like painting or ceramics didn't quite resonate with me. Ironically, the answer to my career conundrum was right in front of me all along: hairstyling.

My mom, a seasoned hairstylist, owned a salon where I often found myself lending a hand. Despite being surrounded by the world of hair, I never imagined it would become my calling. Yet, life has a funny way of steering us towards our destiny.

During my college years, uncertainty about my career path lingered. It was during this time that my mom surprised me with an unexpected decision: she had enrolled me in cosmetology school, the same school where she had kickstarted her career. The universe seemed to be nudging me in a direction I hadn’t anticipated.

My first foray into professional hairstyling began at Trend Cuts in Grass Valley. Charging a modest $15 per haircut, I found myself fully immersed in the craft, averaging around 20 haircuts daily. Meanwhile, my mom had joined Simply Hair and Aveda Salon, where I had the opportunity to observe, assist, and learn from talented stylists.

A pivotal moment came when Becca, one of the salon's co-owners, recognized my potential and invited me to assist her. Gratefully accepting her offer, I was mentored by Becca and her partner Kathy, who played instrumental roles in elevating my skills and understanding of the hair industry.

My journey led me to Clovis, where I joined Elle Style Bar. This salon became a pivotal learning ground, allowing me to refine my skills and deepen my expertise. Inspired by my mentors, I initiated an Assistant Program, where I had the privilege of passing on the knowledge and techniques I had acquired over the years to budding stylists.

As the years rolled on, a dream began to take shape: the desire to start my own business and further propel my career. With a decade of experience under my belt, I’m excited to embark on this new chapter, fueled by the passion, knowledge, and skills I’ve acquired throughout my journey as a hairstylist.
